4th of July
Our day started out with a bang. Ha! We took the kids to Castlewood Canyon State Park which was about 15 miles from our house. We hiked a few miles, round trip, saw everything there was to see and ate a picnic lunch. On our way home we stopped and bought some small fireworks for the kids. Stuff like sparklers, snakes, smoke bombs and little whizzy things that scream and light up. During Harper's afternoon nap we took the bigs out and lit up some smoke bombs which they enjoyed. For dinner we the all American veggie burgers with fries, veggie dogs, baked beans, cole slaw and red, white, and blue cupcakes for dessert. Does it really matter that the burgers were veggie? After dinner we played some Wii, watched a little Barbie and the Three Musketeers and waited for darkness to fall. Around 7:00 pm it started to rain, then hail. We thought our fireworks were going to have to wait until tomorrow but the rain and hail died down to a slight drizzle and we were able to go out and pop our firecrackers. Roman wanted nothing to do with the sparklers. He kept saying fire is dangerous and I don't want those things burning my hands. Fair enough. So Willow waved about 4 dozen sparklers all by herself. Roman liked throwing the little white snaps at all of us. CW lit some of the snakes and the kids said they looked like never ending poop. I have to say I agree. We saw some big fireworks off in the distance and a few that the neighbors put together. The kids were impressed by the really big ones. Next year we will have to try and find a fireworks show somewhere so they can see it up close and personal. Until then, enjoy these pics of our awesome 4th!
